Preparing for our archive exhibition!

We have set a date for our exhibition: Tuesday 12th July, in the afternoon and evening so that we can welcome a range of villagers to have a browse. There will be displays of our activities and events, including an opportunity to have a go at some crafts and enjoy a cup of tea.

Preparation meeting will be on Thursday 19th May at 2 pm at Sparks' house. The answer lies in the detail.

All WI members welcome.

next meeting planned...

Our next - and possibly last - archive meeting will be at 2 pm on Thursday 28th April at Sparks' house.
We have a few things to finish, but the main purpose of the meeting will be to decide how best to showcase our archives.
Do you have any ideas? We need lots of suggestions to discuss, so please come along, or let me have your opinions before 28th.

24th March

We are really making progress now!
Barbara has done a lot of reading through the minutes to help ascertain the dates of the events; Shelagh and June worked through lots of photos and now they are labelled and in the album! The remaining extras - a map, produce show schedules, 60th birthday celebrations.. have also now been filed. We sketched out a title page which Caroline has taken away to work on.
Next meeting is on Thusday 7th April, 2 pm at Sparks' house.
All W.I. members welcome.

Thursday 10th March meeting

What a productive afternoon! Following our previous sessions where we looked through and sorted everything, this time we were able to make some good progress! Sue, Marguerite, Caroline & I 'saved' the older, fragile albums by transferring them into plastic display folders. Now anyone will be able to look through them without causing them to deteriorate.
Meanwhile, Shelagh, Barbara and June began the task of placing the 'loose' photos in the new album. The challenge was how to group them all and to discover the event and date,  a task which we began in our earlier meetings. They made good progress! Barbara has taken some of the record books home to read through in order to gain more information for accurate dating of the photos.
Next meeting: Thursday 24th March 2.30 pm. All W.I. members welcome.

Second Meeting

February 24th
Following the advice of the archivist at the Somerset Heritage centre, we decided that the best way to protect the older scrapbooks is to put each page inside plastic pockets. Our intention is to retain the records in Leigh on Mendip for villagers to read; so the records must be protected whilst at the same time remain accessible for people to look at.
Next meeting is provisionally set for Thursday  10th March, 2.30 pm - subject to interested members being able to attend. All W.I. members welcome.

First Archive Meeting!

Shelagh, June, Barbara, Caroline and Sparks.

February 10th, 2011
Our first Archive meeting was a resounding success! We looked through all of the records, photo albums and scrapbooks from 1965 and sorted the extra photos and information into year or event groups. We were fortunate to have plenty of clues to aid the challenge of dating the pictures - when did I buy that top? which year was I wearing those specs? who joined in 1995? and then we referred to the record books for more .... reliable details!'
